PIXEL LASER SURFACING
We all age, yet none of us want our skin to show the signs of aging. Some call this "aging gracefully". "Aging Gracefully" is a virtual grey zone; a very personal choice with a very different meaning to all of us!
For centuries men and women alike have sought ways to safely and effectively restore young ,smooth glowing skin. PIXEL Laser Skin Rejuvenation / Resurfacing is the latest approach to improving skin complexion, texture and tone, acne scars and wrinkles using fractional resurfacing. Pixel™ skin resurfacing improves skin texture and tone, smoothes wrinkles and effectively diminishes photo aging damage ,age spots, and scarring. In short , this procedure erases those factors that add years to our appearance and restores youthful vitality! Best of all, Pixel skin resurfacing does all this with no pain and minimal downtime. Providing the effective, dramatic results of ablative resurfacing treatments, without its prolonged healing period , you get the best of both worlds. Pixel™ skin resurfacing restores skin to its fresh, healthy state, generally allowing patients to resume their normal routine within 48 to 72 hours.
How Does It Work?
The PIXEL represents the latest generation of laser skin resurfacing devices capable of improving a variety of skin conditions without the downtime and discomfort associated with other resurfacing lasers. The Pixel™ laser pulses create tiny ablative zones, removing the epidermis and upper dermis. The treatment then triggers the body's natural healing process, stimulating the growth of new healthy tissue. The procedure treats small zones of skin, leaving the surrounding tissue untouched and intact. These large unaffected areas act as a reservoir for more effective and rapid healing and collagen production. Heat is imparted to the tissue in columns rather than layers. These columns are referred to as "Pixels, similar to the millions of tiny squares of a digital photograph. This FDA-approved treatment represents the best of both worlds for skin resurfacing: it combines the proven effectiveness of an ablative approach (aggressive lasers that remove the outer layer of skin) with the client comfort level and convenience of a non-ablative approach (lasers that do not remove the outer layer of skin).A laser is a high-energy beam of light that can be directed into certain areas or tissues within the skin. These beams of light are produced in one wavelength or colour at a time, and can vary in terms of their strength and the type of tissue that they can target.
The process of directing a light source to target a selected area of the skin to damage it is technically known as "selective photothermolysis"; where “thermolysis” refers to ‘decomposition by heat’ and “photo” refers to ‘light’.
Unlike as seen with selective photothermolysis, where the whole of the selected target area is damaged; fractional photothermolysis seeks to only damage certain zones within the selected target area, hence only causing fractional damage through the heat of the light source. The PIXEL laser fires a laser beam which is then split into many microscopic beams, producing tiny dot, or pixel-like treatment zones on the skin; sometimes referred to as MicroThermal Zones (MTZs). These MTZs penetrate deep into the skin, destroying the old cells.
For every MTZ that the laser has targeted and therefore treated, it leaves the surrounding tissue unaffected and intact. This allows the skin to heal quickly creating new healthy tissue to fill in the damaged MTZs.
What To Expect?
Generally treatment involves three to six sessions at four week intervals. Right after treatment you may feel a slight tingling sensation. You may experience slight swelling for a day or two. As new skin replaces dead tissue, your skin will flake; a sign that healing is well underway. Your skin will look better immediately, and will steadily improve over the next few months.Clinical and research studies have proved that PIXEL Laser treatments can significantly improve skin texture, reduce roughness and pore size, reduce acne scarring, reduce some excessive skin pigmentation (including some melasma) and soften lines and wrinkles.
Does It Hurt?
Far more comfortable than conventional laser skin resurfacing, Pixel™ treatment is experienced by most patients as a comfortable sensation. Although the PIXEL laser effectively bores tiny holes in your skin, healing is quick with minimal to no downtime, the procedure can be used on both light and darker skin types and, depending on the area of your body treated; the procedure is very well tolerated with minimal or no pain.
Who Can be Treated and on What Parts of the Body?
Pixel™ skin resurfacing can be used on patients of most skin types anywhere on the body. Since this procedure spares healthy tissue it can be performed on delicate skin areas such as the face, neck, chest and hands.
The Pixel™ Advantage
Laser skin resurfacing ,like chemical peels and dermabrasion is commonly used to restore the youthful appearance to wrinkled, sun damaged skin. While yielding excellent results ,laser skin resurfacing often involves discomfort and significant downtime. That means an extended period indoors with no sun exposure-an impossibility for many active, working patients. Compared to other methods, Pixel skin resurfacing saves patients time and discomfort. In short the Pixel laser offers the best of both worlds-superior results, yet no pain and minimal downtime.
What happens during the treatment and how long will it take to recover?
Your first discussion with our specialist practitioner should clearly set out your expectations of the treatment and the practitioner should tell you whether or not these results are achievable using this method. Your medical history will be taken, to ensure that there are no reasons why you shouldn’t have the treatment. The practitioner will use a small hand piece to touch your skin with flashes of light in the area to be treated. Depending on the extent of the area to be treated, each session can take from a few minutes to half an hour.
Most people find that they can return to work immediately after treatment. For several hours afterwards the skin will feel tight and have the appearance of a “sunburned” look. The skin may continue to look “pinkish” for 5 -7 days and any swelling, which should be minimal, usually disappears after 1 – 3 days. As the skin heals itself, you will find mild to moderate skin flaking, which may last for up to 2 weeks.
Who is not suitable for treatment with PIXEL Laser Skin Rejuvenation?
Clients who are pregnant should not have treatment because of the hormonal and pigmentary changes that can occur during pregnancy. If you have a history of poor skin healing or have used isotretinoin in the last 6 months, you may also not be suitable for treatment with the PIXEL laser.
